Group Meetings - Miss Georgiou

Group Meetings
·    Meetings and discussions are important to carry out as it means as a group we can voice our opinions on what we think will make our music video better, this way we can all contribute our ideas to each other and take them all into consideration. Meetings are important to carry out as it means we can stay on top of what we have planned to do to work towards our music video and make sure we are all doing the appropriate preparation. I think my group worked well together as we all had unique ideas to contribute and we all added our own unique attributes to the ideas and merged our different abilities.

Storyboard - Miss Georgiou

Storyboard
The purpose of a storyboard is to plan as a group what we are planning on filming in our music video. Making a storyboard will allow us to plan into the future and have a clear idea of what we are going to include in our music video, this way when we come to film we will have a clear understanding of what we want to film and how we want to film it eg. with different camera angles. Making a storyboard will be effective as we wont waste time when we come to film as we will already know what shots we are doing and in a specific order, therefore we will be able to use our time effectively to make out shots the best they can be. We will have also planned the camera angle, duration, iconography, characters, lighting, setting etc so we will have clear visuals in our head of what our music video will be like so we can address problems if they occur.

We used the primary and secondary research to plan our music video as we used the results we gathered from our questionaires to help with which setting we were planning on using, the character in the video and also whether it was going to be narrative, concept or performance. This way we could make a music video to best suit our target audience and make it as successful as it could be. We used secondary research such as researching into the soul genre to plan what camera shots and editing styles we are going to include to make our music video most conventional to the soul genre. This way our music video could be as successful as possible as it would follow genetic conventions.

My group and I storyboarded our music video by thinking about what we wanted each of our shots to look like in our music video and drew a picture of them, then we wrote what editing style we were planning on using, the camera shot, the character, hair makeup and costume and the time frame we wanted the shot to go on for. As a group we put together everyone's ideas to create the storyboard with everyone putting in their own suggestions on how we wanted it to turn out.  We shared the responsibility of making the storyboard by Shaun and Lucy were in charge of drawing the images of what we all wanted the music video to look like where as Devon and myself were in charge of filling out the details of the technical information as we had very clear ideas of how we would carry out Shaun and Lucy's visions, we decided on the camera angles, order of scenes and most of the mise-en-scene.

Planning Editing Styles - Miss Georgiou

Planning Editing Styles
A variety of editing styles are essential within a music video as they keep the audience engaged in whats happening. This is from the editing styles keeping the music video more interesting as it keeps the audience  much more engaged. It makes the music video much more engaging for the audience as rather the video being one long continuous shot which would be boring to watch, it means that there's a variety of shots being used. By simply adding cuts and transitions within a music video it allows and helps the audience to gain a good understanding of the narrative, be able to see the artist clearly in the video and understand the concept. We are going to be editing our music video using Final Cut Pro to add effects, cuts and allow us to time our music video making it a better visual experience for our audience. The main three editing styles we are going to use within our music video Only Love Can Hurt Like This are: slow paced editing, flashback and jump cuts.

The main editing style we are going to use is slow paced editing as our song is from the soul genre and is mainly about emotions and heartache which would make slow paced editing appropriate. Slow paced editing would allow each shot to flow from each other smoothly as it would emit a relaxed atmosphere to the audience which would promote the feeling and mood of the video. We aim to include this editing style as it is conventional to the soul genre as soul music is usually slow paced which therefore is reflected within the editing used. It portrays the soul genre as it gets the audience to engage with what's happening as the editing is not fast which means the audience will have time to think about what they are seeing in the video. This therefore allows the audience to build a relationship with the artist as the audience will then feel more involved in the video as they have time to be thinking about the artists emotions and the storyline within the video. This editing style represents my artist as emotional and hurt as the slow paced editing allows the audience to really view the artist and see her emotions and how she is feeling within the video. This therefore adds to the meaning and purpose of the song which continuously portrays the artist and emotional and hurt.

The next editing style we are going to use are flashbacks. We are going to use these when the artist is looking back at her past relationship and reminiscing on the happy times she had. We feel that using this editing style will help the audience to really engage more in the music video, as it will make the narrative a lot clearer and also allow them to gain an insight into why the artist is feeling the way she is in the video. This will then make them more interested in the music video as they are seeing a different side to the artist and seeing them in a different light which will intrigue them. They will also build a relationship with the artist as they will be seeing everything that the artist is seeing and see what they have gone through in the past allowing them to share the same emotions. This editing style represents our artist is emotional and sad as it shows the artist constantly looking back into the past at when she was happy which will contrast to her emotions at the present. This editing style is conventional to the soul genre as it shows the artist being distraught from her past experiences which is conventional as soul artist's music is usually based on their past real life experiences.

The last main editing style we are going to include is a jumpcut. Jumpcuts are going to be used throughout the music video as it will join two different shots together and allow the music video to run smoothly. Jump cuts allow our target audience to build a relationship with the artist as they will join all the different shots together, therefore showing different scenes and clips to the audience of the artist. This would therefore mean they will build a relationship with the artist as they will have a better understanding of how the artist is feeling as the audience will see the artist in many different clips. This editing style is conventional to the soul genre as it shows that what she is singing about is overwhelming as it follows her everywhere she goes as the editing technique shows the artist in various different locations showing that the topic of the song is very important to her as she thinks about it all the time. This therefore represents the artist as emotional and in touch with her feelings as it shows her emotions are following her round throughout the video.

Risk assessment - Miss Georgiou

Risk Assessment
It is important to consider risks before filming as it means that we can identify any potential hazards and hopefully find ways to avoid them when we are filming. We have found 8 potential hazards when we are filming and identified his we will stop them from happening. It is important to consider these risks before filming as it means we have considered the safety of the group and the public.

The risk assessment will assist us when filming as when we are filming and we come across hazards we will now know how to deal with them and mean that we don't waste any time trying to overcome the problems. This means that we have more time to spend filming rather than wasting time overcoming issues when we could be editing our footage or filming more.

Description of hazard
Prevention of hazard
Trailing leads while filming
Use gaffer tape to secure leads
Dropping the camera during a handheld camera shot
Use strap around your hand
Tripping over the tri-pod
Place it sensibly when not using it
Getting too cold when filming outside
Wear warm clothes and have breaks inside
Falling over when running
Make sure the area is clear before running
Going into the road with cars
Film sensibly and be aware
Bath water could spill and we could slip
Mop the floor and keep towels on the floor
Filming in a busy, public area with pedestrians
Be aware of our surroundings. Moving out the way for people and filming at less busy times of the day

Filming schedule - Miss Georgiou

Film schedule
A filming schedule is important to have as it means as a group we can plan when we are going to film. This is important as it means we can make the most of the time we have to film and use the time best to our abilities. Having a schedule means that we will be much more organised and know exactly when we are filming meaning that we can plan what parts of our music video we are going to film at specific times of meeting. When creating a music video it is essential that we keep to our filming schedule as we only have a limited amount of time to create the music video and would be a bad idea if we wasted our time and would mean that our shots would be unplanned. Having a filming schedule also means that we can prepare ourselves for each of the shots we plan to take as there are numerous locations and different hair and makeup styles we are going to use. Meaning that we will make the shots the best that we can as we will have planned what we are going to film each time we meet up.

Did you follow the schedule while filming, or did you make any changes?
